Chokramudi Trek

The trek to Chokramudi Peak is one of the most rewarding hiking experiences in Munnar, offering spectacular views of rolling hills, mist-covered valleys, tea plantations, grasslands, and dense shola forests. Rising to an altitude of approximately 2,100 metres, Chokramudi is among the highest peaks in the region and is ideal for travellers seeking a moderate adventure amidst untouched natural beauty.

The trek usually begins around 0830 hrs from hotels within Munnar limits. The trail passes through scenic tea estates before gradually ascending into open grasslands and mountain ridges that provide breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Western Ghats. Depending on the fitness level and walking pace of the participants, the trek duration ranges from 4 to 6 hours.

This moderate trek is suitable for nature enthusiasts, photographers, and adventure seekers looking to explore the pristine landscapes of Kerala while enjoying a refreshing escape into the mountains.

Itinerary

The trek can commence either from Old Munnar or from Lockhart Gap. This is a scenic trek through varying landscapes, such as hardy volcanic rock faces, thick shola forests, grasslands, and tea plantations. Chokramudi is situated at 7,200 feet above sea level in Eravikulam National Park. Soak in the fresh air when you reach the top of the peak.

Since it is difficult to circle back, we will return by the same route used to climb the mountain, offering beautiful aerial views of tea plantations, forest cover, and distant paddy fields. If you are lucky and the weather is favorable, there is a high chance of spotting the rare Nilgiri tahr, an endangered species of mountain goat, as well as several endemic birds and plants.
