The Lady Life, A Feminine Path - Unblemished Smiles
Start your day exploring the area to have an in-depth knowledge of the lifestyle of the women-folk who brings in the primary source of income for many of the families in the village. This tour has been planned in an effort to understand the intricacies in the life of these women-folk. The whole of this tour will be guided by a lady making it even more realistic. The food culture in India is as diverse as is its customs and traditions, with each community having their own style of cooking methods. To absorb a small portion of this vast store house of cooking techniques, today you would experience a very unique cooking class with a local family. You would begin the tour with a visit to the local market with a homemaker to get the spices, masalas, veggies or meat needed for the meal. They are all available at the local market in town and you get to understand these basic ingredients used in Indian cooking. Interact with women in the market who sell vegetables, fruits and other goods, understand the life and culture of the people and the role that these women play in the day to day life through self-sustainability. On selecting your choice of veggies and other ingredients you would then proceed to a local home to begin your stint with cooking and tasting few Indian dishes. You also get to interact with the other members of the family, from grand parents to the kids of the new generation, who all live happily under a single roof which is not uncommon in this part of the world. After you're done savoring the tastes of your hard work in an Indian kitchen, you then proceed for a small sneak peek into the lives of the women-folk who work in the tea plantations. Closely linked with tea are the lives of the female residents of the tea estates. They are the ones who pick the tea leaves, sending it for processing, making sure that you get the tea leaves ready for your morning cup of tea. Walk through Lockhart tea plantations and interact with the tea pickers at the tea fields. Stroll through the resident quarters and enjoy a cup of tea from the village shop. Witness the lifestyle of tea pickers by visiting their homes if possible. Spend some time with the children at the creche as their mothers pick tea leaves in the field. Chat with the baby sitter at the creche - she is an expert at keeping the kids engaged. If time permits, the last stop would be the "Shristi Welfare Project" which is also run by the wives of the estate managers' with an aim of rehabilitating the physically and mentally challenged children in the different estates.
