Aranmula Vallasadya - July 13 to October 2, 2025 & Ashtami Rohini Vallasadya - September 14, 2025
The grand Aranmula vallasadya feast, considered the largest in India and held at the Aranmula Parthasarathy temple in Pathanamthitta district, is believed to be around 1,800 years old.
The snake boat crew (palliyodam) arrive at the temple Ghats on the Pampa river, singing devotional songs (Vanchipattu). They are then traditionally welcomed and proceed to the temple premises, where they circumambulate the temple, chanting verses in praise of Lord Krishna. The grand Vallasadya feast is served in the temple's dining halls (Oottupura), not on the boat itself.
During the feast, which takes place in the afternoon after the mid-day worship (Utchapuja), participants are seated and served over 60 varieties of vegetarian dishes on banana leaves. The oarsmen are in traditional Kerala attire, wearing white mundu (loincloth) and no shirt or with a traditional upper cloth (melmundu).
A unique part of the ritual is that they sing Vanchipattu to request specific dishes and every dish they ask for must be served - none can be refused.
The feast started from July 13 to October 2, 2025.
The grand Ashtami Rohini Vallasadya is on September 14, 2025.
