A scenic drive through these lush green fields will lead us to our first refreshing view stop Chenkara Kurisumala (15 km from Thekkady Tiger reserve). After a small hiking you will reach a beautiful pond on the extreme top of Chenkara Cross hills settled at around 4500 ft height and offering a spectacular panoramic view on the surroundings mountains and hills called Annan (Elder Brother) and Thampi (Younger Brother) hills.

After our small break on this beautiful spot, we continue our drive along the Tea plantations as we reach Ayyappancovil, a small settlement along the sides of the Periyar River (30km far from Kumily). Observe the hanging suspension bridge, the main attraction here, across the Periyar River, connecting the villages of Ayyappancoil and Kanchiyar and giving a new hope of development to the villagers. Here we can cross to the other side, below the flowing Periyar lake, to our next destination the beautiful Kovilamala Tribal settlement. This village is inhabited by a tribal community called the Mannan. This unique community is the only one in Kerala that has an actual tribal king, Raman Raja Mannan, who was elected in March 2012. Here you can spend time with people learning and experiencing their daily life. Experience a small lunch in King’s house and share with him about their history, own medicine methods or art and craft forms skills, etc…

After this royal immersion, it is time for your next Jeep drive to the nearby spot known as Anchuruli, (10km from Kovilmala settlement) famous for its waterfalls which can be reached with the help of the local people.

Then reach the Honey Nagar farm in Murikkattukudi where you can meet Mr. Raju who is famous for his honey bee farming and Api-Therapy method. Here you can taste the natural honey products and discover about the tiny but important honey bees and their role in curing all sort of health problems etc.

Later proceed to Anjuruli, a picturesque secret fishing spot offering serene views of semi evergreen forest, grassland and hilly areas of the Western Ghats. If possible with special permission we can visit another traditional Mannan tribal settlement nearby.

After visiting all this mesmerizing place we can drive back again to the Kovilamala settlement and experience a rare moment of a Tribal Art Dance known as “Koothu” performed at the King’s house by the Mannan people. Return back to our hotel by the evening.
